Little Friends Kindergarten program is designed to make your child's first experience a positive one. We believe that the child is the focal point of the program, and that individual needs must be met on a daily basis. Individual children come into Kindergarten from a variety of experiences; the goals that are set for each student include:
Fostering self-esteem in the child through positive self-concept building.
To start the child on a life long love of learning through experiences that
are appropriate for their age and maturity level.
To build an educational foundation that can be used to achieve further
academic success.
To identify the readiness of individual students to begin the education process in any subject area.
Recognizing the individuality of each child and the totality of the whole person, the school respects the individual's beliefs and strives to meet his/her needs in full: educationally, socially, and emotionally.
The academics are introduced and taught through a variety of developmentally appropriate and hands on activities. Kindergarten should be a comfortable place for children to explore and discover learning in a warm loving environment. Children's curiosity should be peaked so that they may become active, inquisitive learners. The integrated academic approach is used to link together all curriculum areas into a cohesive day for the students. Through many and varied hands on learning activities, the children will experience and develop academic success.
Kindergarten students will have ample opportunity for field trips, presenting performances, and working with other classes to help foster independence. The Kindergarten will be given the Metropolitan Achievement Test, and the results will be made available to parents. Conferences are scheduled and report cards distributed in November, February, and May. Skill assessment will be done through a variety of methods but mainly through teacher observation on a regular, consistent basis. There will ample opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learned through manipulation of materials as well as oral and written assessment techniques.
The Kindergarten program is offered half day (9AM 1PM), full day (9AM-3PM), and extended hours (7:30 AM-6PM). Students bring their lunch and are provided a morning and afternoon snack.
